My kids love to see the songs I grew up with. Back when videos ruled!

I don’t know what’s up with Rhino. They released a handful of these “Essential Music Video” titles but each disc contains only five videos, total running time around 20 minutes. It’s nice that the disc is priced (somewhat) accordingly, but it is just such a waste of physical resources (all that plastic) and space for the consumer. It would have made more sense for them to have at least put 10 videos (if not double that) on each disc and then charge twice as much.

As to the videos on this particular disc itself, there are some good ones. I think that Bananaram’s “Venus” nearly qualifies as a camp classic from the era. Simply Red’s “Holding Back The Years” still shines. Even though I’m a big Howard Jones fan, I wish they would have chosen one of his other videos for inclusion here.

Sound and picture quality is okay, but it’s stereo only (no multichannel remix here).

The DVD contains 5 videos. I bought it last night at Wal-mart at the much better price. Is it worth the money? No. But you you have five bucks why not to buy this DVD instead of a Burger King Value Meal? Much less fat and calories…

If it wasn’t because I was desperately looking for Bananarama’s “Venus” and Julian Lennon’s “Too Late For Goodbyes” videos, I would have not purchased this DVD, even though it is very cheap. I agree with all the reviewers, these is a very short compilation and I still believe they could have included at least 30 videos here for the same price. Venus, Too Late For Goodbyes, Chains of Love and Holding Back The Years are my favorite videos here and that is the only reason I bought this tiny compilation. It was more than a fortunate situation that 4 of my favorite songs from the 80’s were included here. If you’re a die hard fan of these videos then buy it, but personally I think is not worth it. 10 stars for the artists and their videos, “0″ stars for the compilation

Like a lot of these compilation DVDs, you pretty much have to settle for what you can get. So out of the 6 videos presented here, I got 3 that I really wanted. Bananarama’s “Venus” was one of them. And although the girls’ dancing style looks a little silly and outdated, it’s still a great song. The Pretenders’ “Brass In Pocket” is kind of a nostalgic favorite of mine because it was one of the first videos I remember seeing on MTV. “Chains of Love” is the final pick of my three. There’s nothing bad I can say about the other 3 videos. It’s just nice to be able to see ANY of these videos the way we used to be able to see them every day on MTV. The picture quality and sound are very good, as you would expect on a DVD. By all means, buy this one.
